Classes
That really depends on the student. Learning a language takes constant practice and dedication. You have to study, you have to do your homework, and you have to USE the language! Learning a language is a hobby, not something you check off your list as completed. It’s like yoga for the brain. We have a more detailed article on the challenges of learning a language on our blog. You can find it here.
The majority of our classes take a comprehensive approach, constantly changing between reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. This keeps students from getting too bored or burned out on one topic.
Unless a student is an absolute beginner, they must take a placement test. The cost of the test is $50, however that fee is discounted from the first set of classes if you decide to enroll*. The test must be taken in our office. It consists of a written exam as well as a speaking component. Each language program consists of at least 6 different levels, so we want to be sure you are placed in a class that is just right for you. The validity of a placement test is 6 months. Given the limited number of classes offered, there is no guarantee that there will be a class available for your level.
*The $50 fee is non-refundable for Russian and Chinese placement tests if the instructor must be present.
If you have ever studied the language before, the first step to enroll is to schedule a placement test. This can be arranged by contacting us to make an appointment. After that, you’ll need you to fill out a short form with your contact information and agree to the policies, and make payment for the course.
Yes. All courses, both private and group, are required to have access to the materials used in the course. These materials are generally available through our office or students have the option to procure their own copy.
If a student fails a final exam, they have the option to retake it with the instructor’s approval. However, if you had a difficult time in the course, we often recommend that students repeat the same level. After all, the goal is to learn the language, not get to the finish line and move on to the next level. Students should talk with Julieta to evaluate their options. Exams can be only be retaken during normal administrative hours. More information on the requirements for moving on to the next level can be found on our policies page.
We do our best to schedule courses at convenient starting times throughout the year. At the same time, we are limited by student demand and facility and instructor availability. In the event there is not a group class that would work for you, you can always schedule private lessons. Or you can join the contact list for that language and we will email you when new courses are scheduled. You can sign up here.
refunds and cancellations
Information on cancelations and refunds can be found on our policies page.
No, unfortunately there are no scholarships or financial aid available at this time.
Yes. This policy is in place out of respect for our talented staff. When students do not come to a class, for whatever reason, the space is still reserved and cannot be offered to other students. There is no way to recuperate the instructor’s loss. Please remember that enrollment fees are billed for the entire course, not on a per-class basis. It would also be impossible to offer quality, consistent classes and schedules if students could come and go. Our complete cancelation policy can be found on our policies page.
Yes, we do offer payment plans, depending on how far in advance you enroll. We accept all major credit cards. We also accept PayPal, which offers 6-month, interest-free financing. Payment for the entire course is due in order to reserve a spot in the class. Contact us for more information.
translation and interpretation
Yes, we can perform both notarized and apostilled translations, a common requirement for visa applications and immigration services.
Benefits of Learning a Language
When it comes to speaking another language, it’s about the journey, not only the destination. When we set out to learn how to speak a foreign language, there are numerous benefits that we pick up along the way.
In essence, when your brain is forced to use a different language system to operate, it flexes all of your cognitive muscles. Numerous studies have shown that learning another language helps with focus, task switching, and executive function. In older students, it can also help stave off dementia and Alzheimers.
But don’t take our word for it. Here’re great articles that summarizes language learning.
Accreditation
CR Languages is proud to announce our accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) until December 31, 2026. This milestone not only marks the quality and excellence of our language programs but also means our courses now qualify for CEUs and are more likely to meet employer continuing education requirements.
